PASSIVE IN GREYTOWN

This full Passive House new build in the Wairarapa showcases the precision and craftsmanship MH Build brings to complex projects. While passive construction was new territory, Mark Hanson immersed himself in the principles and delivered a fully airtight home that exceeded the rigorous benchmark of 0.6 air changes per hour at 50 Pascals. Independently tested via blower door, the home achieved an outstanding result of 0.31 ACH - a testament to exceptional attention to detail at every stage of the build.

Designed for year-round comfort, the home maintains a consistent 22–23°C through a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system in winter, with simple natural ventilation in summer. The result is a warm, healthy, energy-efficient home that performs beautifully in the Wairarapa climate - and a build experience grounded in quality workmanship, collaboration, and trust.

What the client said

Mark Hanson was the foreman and principal builder for our Wairarapa full passive new home. Passive was new to Mark, but he read and learnt all about it and created a fully airtight home which exceeded the maximum of 0.6 air changes per hour per hour at 50 Pascals pressure. This was tested via a blower door test which came in at 0.31. This is testament to Mark’s experience and attention to detail. It was a complex build and attention to detail was required at every step to ensure the building met passive principals. The home is unbelievable to live in and sits around 22-23C all year round through a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system in winter and simply opening windows in summer. If we were building again in the Wairarapa we would definitely be using Mark as not only, is he a quality builder but he’s a really nice guy as well and we all worked well together.
